The last week of October is a very busy time for Jeffrey, our Scholars Ensemble and those of our singers who also form part of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Chamber Choir.
On Thursday 29 October at 7pm, Jeffrey directs the RBC Chamber Choir in a special Joubert Centenary Celebration concert at the Bradshaw Hall. It features John Joubert’s powerful South of the Line, a setting of Thomas Hardy’s heartfelt anti-Boer War poems that was premiered by Ex Cathedra and Jeffrey to celebrate the opening of the Adrian Boult Hall in 1985. They will also perform a selection of other music by – and works which inspired – this great composer who made Birmingham his home for more than half a century.
And then on Friday 30 October at 6pm, Jeffrey directs our Scholars Ensemble, students and staff instrumentalists from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s Historical Performance Department and distinguished alumni in a programme of French choral music from the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries. A miscellany of French Treasures: music through the eyes of the editor is in the Recital Hall at the Conservatoire and forms part of a three day symposium that brings together scholars and performers working in the field of music editing.
