Monteverdi Vespers (1610)

Claudio Monteverdi’s famous 1610 Vespers never fails to astonish. Written on the cusp of the Renaissance and Baroque, it dazzles with vocal and instrumental virtuosity, burns with fervent devotion, and invites us into its intimate, sensual solos, duets and trios.

This is an unmissable concert. Not only is it an unforgettable opportunity to hear this music of extraordinary scale and invention, but it will be Jeffrey Skidmore's final concert in Shrewsbury before retiring as Artistic Director.

Our thanks to Shropshire Music Trust for inviting us to give this concert.

Running time approx. 2 hours including interval.

Jeffrey says

"And to finish - Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers.  One of the first works (alongside Machaut Mass!) to capture my imagination as a Magdalen undergraduate in 1970. Coming full circle it seems appropriate to end with this revolutionary, seminal and defining work with His Majestys Sagbutts & Cornetts."
