Sing with Ex Cathedra: Cherubini Requiem in C Minor
Join us for a day (10am-4pm) of singing, study, and musical friendship alongside James Burton and members of Ex Cathedra. We welcome singers of all ages and levels of experience.
Cherubini’s Requiem was admired by Beethoven and performed at his memorial in 1827. Sitting at the heart of the early Romantic tradition, the music alternates between hushed, prayer-like passages and more dramatic choral writing, not least in the Dies irae. Come and explore this unjustly neglected masterpiece with us.

Jeffrey says
"There are two opportunities to catch a glimpse of James Burton in action before his appointment as my successor in September 2027... In the new year he will lead a Come and Sing at the CBSO Centre exploring Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor. It was one of Beethoven’s favourite pieces which was performed at his memorial service on 5 April 1827."
