‘It was a delight to see a full house on a winter Sunday afternoon, anticipating a Purcell feast from conductor Jeffrey Skidmore and his outstanding musicians, both vocal and instrumental… every sublime emotion being mirrored in the music.
‘Religious settings were followed by a performance of Purcell’s only opera, Dido and Aeneas … with familiar snippets pulling at the heart strings, contrasting with the shock of outrageous electrical thunder effects. We were finally reminded of Remembrance Day with Dido’s heart-stopping “When I am laid in earth”.’
