… on Saturday Jeffrey Skidmore and his expert choir, reinforced with a reunion of past members, perform in Birmingham Town Hall probably the greatest of the festival’s commissions – greater even, possibly, than Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius – Mendelssohn’s epic oratorio Elijah.
