A centenary performance of the work Rachmaninov loved above all his others – the Vespers (also known as the All Night Vigil, and first performed in 1915). The solemn, serene beauty of this music, which is rooted in his deep Orthodox faith, gave Rachmaninoff ‘an hour of the most complete satisfaction’. This work always creates an unmistakable atmosphere and we’re looking forward to this candlelit performance in Ampleforth Abbey as part of Ryedale Festival.
