Ex Cathedra Consort & Continuo
Jeffrey Skidmore conductor
Monteverdi’s famous 1610 collection contains an extraordinary range of musical styles and yet seems completely unprecedented. It’s the perfect preparation ahead of our performance of our Monteverdi Vespers concert later in the year, as this programme explores how Monteverdi so brilliantly arrived at this fusion, by performing the madrigals ‘made spiritual’ alongside settings of the secular madrigals from which they were adapted. The Missa In illo tempore and Magnificat a 6 from the famous 1610 collection complete the programme.
‘Jeffrey Skidmore has the enviable gift of concocting a witches’ brew of fascination in his programming… enriching’ (The Birmingham Post)
We are delighted to return to the historic St Mary’s Church in Warwick and to give this concert in Monteverdi’s 450th birthday year, at the kind invitation of Leamington Music.
