Read the coverage of Jeffrey’s OBE presentation in the Sutton Coldfield Observer:
‘A FORMER head of music at a school in Sutton Coldfield has been presented with an OBE at Buckingham Palace by Prince Charles.
‘Jeffrey Skidmore, 63, was awarded the OBE in the New Year’s Honours List for services to choral music last Thursday (March 26).
‘The former head of music at John Willmott school formed his own choir, Ex Cathedra, which is now world famous and has inspired many Sutton Coldfield students to get involved in singing, with a number going on to pursue successful careers in music.
‘Speaking after being presented his award, he said: “It is a great personal honour for me to receive this award. It is also a tribute to the many groups and institutions I have worked with over a long period of time and in particular Ex Cathedra who has sustained a uniquely ambitious and high quality programme of choral music for almost half a century. I was very fortunate to be encouraged and inspired by some remarkable teachers and musicians. At every stage, there was always someone to help me and I am sure this is one of the main reasons why I have always been keen to support and develop aspiring young singers and musicians in my turn. I should like to thank all the many people and friends who have made this possible.”‘
