Education & Participation
Ex Cathedra believes that singing engages the whole body, ignites the soul and transforms individuals into communities. That is why we have placed education and community projects at the heart of our work. We seek to inspire a love of singing in people of all ages and backgrounds through our dynamic, innovative and inclusive projects in schools, hospitals and the wider community, and to provide opportunities for talented young singers to realise their full potential.
Our highly regarded projects are led by Director of Education Rebecca Ledgard and delivered by a team of vocal tutors, all members of Ex Cathedra, who bring a range of skills and expertise as teachers, conductors, professional singers and workshop leaders.
‘You only have to spend five minutes in a room with an Ex Cathedra vocal tutor and you’ll want to sing!‘ (Howard Goodall CBE, National Singing Ambassador 2007 – 2011)
Our work includes our Academies of Vocal Music – a range of choirs for children aged 5 through to age 18 years, and a wide range of projects, including: Singing Playgrounds, Singing Medicine, Singing Pathways, Singing Bonds, Singing Team, SingMaker, and ChoirMaker. We are Birmingham City Council’s Arts Champion for the Ladywood constituency in Birmingham, part of the Birmingham Music Education Partnership and are pleased to work with Music Education Hubs across the UK.
This work is possible thanks to Sandvik Limited’s ongoing commitment as Principal Education Sponsor.
