Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is perhaps the most confident and optimistic statement of Christian belief in the choral repertoire. It is richly scored for a large Baroque orchestra. The exuberance and joy of the opening chorus – ‘Jauchzet, frohlocket’ – sets the tone – a wonderfully uplifting start to the Christmas season.
The concert comprises cantatas I, II, III & VI and will be sung in German.
‘exhilarating‘ (The Scotsman)
